Lino Maga is Mr. Barbacarlo, the producer, who passed away a few years ago, of a rustic, peasant wine that has become legendary. The winery's foundation dates back to 1896, when the Maga family's ancestors named the family vineyard and an entire hill in memory of their uncle Carlo : Barbacarlo in the Pavia dialect. Years of struggle and legal battles led to Lino gaining a monopoly on the brand, initially recognized as synonymous with fine Oltrepò wine, and later recognized the vineyard as a grand cru monopoly.
